of Fjallbacka, which is the small Swedish fishing village, painted in warm, bright colours.

On the back of the painting is a label with the painter's name and the painted location. 19th century.

The old oil painting is dated 1887 and signed bottom left corner J. Grimelund, Norwegian landscape and marine painter.

Grimelund Johannes Martin (1842-1917), was born in Oslo, was a pupil of Hans Gude and studied at the Karlsruhe Academy,

but in 1876 he moved to France where he started working as an artist. He then began exhibiting at the

‘Salon des Artistes de Paris', as well as in Oslo and Dusseldorf. In 1884 he received an honour.

Then in 1889 he received a bronze medal at the Exposition Universelle.

Finally in 1892 he was made ‘chevalier de la légion d'honneur’.

Many paintings by this painter are kept in the museums in Oslo, Bernay and Antwerp.

The oil painting is adorned with a beautiful gilded frame in pure gold leaf.

The antique painting and the gilded frame are professionally and carefully restored.
