playing, late 19th century. It is a pleasant portrait of Cats intent on eating. French School of the 1800s.
The antique painting is signed bottom left Daniel Merlin, French painter of cats and kittens.
Daniel Merlin (1861-1933) was born in Audigny and was a pupil of the history painter Jean-Paul Laurens.
His works were exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1884. He was a painter who loved to paint animals and especially cats.
The artwork bears a gilded frame in pure gold leaf that is authentic and coeval to the 19th century painting.
The Antique Painting and the frame have been professionally and carefully restored.
The oil on canvas painting dates back to the nineteenth Century and it is an artwork
of Bisgart Collection of Antique Paintings of the 19th Century.
