The antique painting is signed at lower right by Marie Calvés, a French painter of genre, landscape and aminal paintings.
Marie didiére Calvés (1883-1957) was born in Paris and was the pupil of and daughter of Léon Georges Calvès.
She exhibited regularly at the Salon Des Artistes Français until 1940. She painted mainly animals.
Some of her paintings are exhibited in the Musée de Gres.
It also bears an authentic carved and lacquered wooden frame coeval with the painting from the 20th century.
The painting and the frame are carefully and professionally restored.
