Carolus Tremerie (1858-1945) was born in Ghent and loved to paint the banks of the river Lys and the surroundings of Ghent.

The Lys region was very popular with impressionist painters.

Many paintings by this painter are kept in various museums in Belgium: Anves, Ghent, Liège and Namur.

The work bears a gilded frame in pure gold leaf coeval with the 19th century painting.

The Old Painting and the frame have been carefully and professionally restored.
